Why did you chose your company name / What does it mean to you?

What’s up guys, My name is Distinguish’d Jason, or Jason Robinson. I run a brand named Distinguish’d Minds. The brand name was developed after hearing one of my teachers explaining about historical figures in class and It peaked my interest. He told me to look it up in a dictionary, and the word truly stuck with me. At the time I was playing baseball, and with the word meaning, successful and to demand respect, I assumed the word was fit for me. Today we have transitioned the word to its second meaning which is to stand out and be recognizable. We consider both standing out and being successful as the ability to be yourself at all times, and to have “carte blanche,” or the ability to do whatever one wants.

What are your goals for your company for the rest of this year? 

As we hit September, we are already living in 2020. But after such an amazing successful year fill of learning we are looking forward to further development in 2020. our goals are to continue to relationship build and grow our direct to consumer business model, while also developing our media further to grow our brand in a more well rounded way.

What Inspired you to start your company?

I was well on my way to playing college baseball when my dead suddenly passed away. Something about that woke up the need for me to help support my family. I began working full time my senior year of high school and focusing on ways to make money to help fill the void of my dad. Though, I didnt do so well, lmfaoo, It did inspire me to create my own hustle which was the origin of this clothing company. I promised my dad, mom, and cousin Michael Whitlock (played semi pro and lost his life to alcohol poisoning) I would never dabble in drug dealing, so I did the next best thing, and approached it the same way! At the time it wasnt a clothing company it all. It was a pure hustle.

Did you always want to be an entrepreneur?

Not a chance. I was baseball only to the core, honestly. I STILL AM! Life just has a funny way of playing out to push us all towards our purpose, i think!? This brand developed me into a man though. Things I dont know that I wouldve learned playing ball. Baseball was easy, things just flowed and worked, well for the most part, until they kinda didn’t. But ultimately and an entrepreneur you make so many sacrifices and have to learn so much, that you evolve into a very busy savy, and emotional intelligent person, not to mention all of the additional skills thay came with it. I’m blessed, just need to be rich now, financially that is. Hahah

Words of advice you would give to someone getting into your field?

Honestly in 2019??? DON’T! Its over saturated, and in reality there are so many better fields to make money in! However if fashion is your passion; save some money, and learn about marketing and media ar a high level. The game has evolved so much from when myself and Trey and all the other guys got started in this thing. I think at the time “the whole world” wasnt as big meaning we were doing it for the whole world, but for the people right here in the Bay. Today you have the ability to put your stuff on display for the entire world to see, so come correct! DO NOT PUT OUT TRASH, oh and patience is sooooo important! Its about what the market wants, not what u think is dope, so study!

But again, dont. Just work for me! Lol

What is the message you want to deliver to people?

In short; “Distinguish yourself from the rest,” which is the tag line for the brand. It’s that simple. Do that by being genuinely yourself, doing what you want and what you believe in, everyone else will adjust to you eventually, but you’ll be much more happy in the long run.

How long have you been in your craft?

Mannnn… 8 years technically, but what I would consider officially a business, 2 years! Everything else was learning curve, with so much more learning to go!
